Ok, i admit i was digging at the Righties a little bit but isn't this disturbing no matter which "side" you are on? Trying to hide the truth to support your world view? To me it's inexcusable!

If so they're failing miserably. For example, the press is full of stories about how Omar Thornton only killed 8 people because he was surrounded by racism but either ignore or bury far down in their articles the fact that he was fired for stealing beer from his employer and selling it on the side. (Couple examples below.)

Actually I don't know anyone who doesn't do this at least a little bit. The more honest ones by not mentioning things rather than active deceit. And it's essentially unavoidable -- your time is limited, so you focus on what you prefer. This works OK if others are taking up the other side of the debate, but if not we need someone to temporarily jump to the other side to play Devil's advocate. It's called confirmation bias, and as far as I know we all have it -- its inbuilt and instinctive -- but many of us fight it as best we can.
