needimprovement Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 See if you can figure out what these words have in common. 1 Banana 2 Dresser 3 Grammar 4 Potato 5 Revive 6 Uneven 7 Assess Answer will be provided later. 1
DJBruce Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 If you move the first letter of each word to the back it is then spelled the same way backwards as it was originally spelled.
needimprovement Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 If you move the first letter of each word to the back it is then spelled the same way backwards as it was originally spelled. That was very quick! DJBruce is right - Place the first alphabet of each word as the last and you get Palindromes. Banana = anana B Dresser = resser D Grammar = rammar G Potato = otato P Revive = evive R Uneven = neven U Assess = ssess A 1
Guest mabil Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Hey.. I was also supposed to write like this... but suddenly came to your answer and thought.. its already answered.. That was very quick! DJBruce is right - Place the first alphabet of each word as the last and you get Palindromes. Banana = anana B Dresser = resser D Grammar = rammar G Potato = otato P Revive = evive R Uneven = neven U Assess = ssess A
CaptainPanic Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) The 2nd letter until the last letter are palindromes (meaning they're the same if you read them front to back and back to front). Hmm... funny how the other posts didn't show on my screen, and I really thought I was the 1st to reply to this one... Edited August 26, 2010 by CaptainPanic
carolbrookes Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Hey i knew this one...but its cool. Waiting for few more
36grit Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 pretty cool, I got it after a several seconds of contemplation, but I didn't know that there was a name for it.
TonyMcC Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 That was very quick! DJBruce is right - Place the first alphabet of each word as the last and you get Palindromes. Banana = anana B Dresser = resser D Grammar = rammar G Potato = otato P Revive = evive R Uneven = neven U Assess = ssess A Sorry tto be a spoilsport. Its a good puzzle but taking the first letter away and putting it at the end does not make a palidrome. Whichever end it is placed you are still one letter short of a palindrome.
ydoaPs Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Removing the first letter makes it a palindrome, though.
TonyMcC Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) Removing the first letter makes it a palindrome, though. Strictly speaking you are correct. A combination of letters doesn't have to make sense to be a palindrome. Edited January 8, 2011 by TonyMcC
