J.S.P.O. Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Can a protein function during protein transport?
Greippi Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 If a protein is unfolded during the transport process then, no. Often proteins have a targetting sequence added on the end which tells the cell where it needs to go in the cell, this may interfere with the correct folding of a protein and thus make it less functional.
CharonY Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Even if folded correctly the protein-protein interaction with the transport system generally inhibits proper interaction with the substrate.
