budullewraagh Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 they don't. photons have no mass or volume and thus they have nothing resisting their motion. they are the fastest "things" that exist. quarks have mass and volume and thus cannot exceed the speed of light.

Cap'n Refsmmat Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Tachyons have negative mass, so theoretically (that's the key word) they would be restricted to entirely OVER the speed of light. Nobody can prove if they can exist yet.
5614 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 cap'n said it all, theory means it's not possible yet [or ever], no one knows if they exist, its all questions with no answers. quarks can't travel faster than light. as far as we are concerned nothing can travel faster than light, except the 'effectively made up' tachyons...
