siddentone Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Two asteroids sped toward Earth but just missed humanity's home planet by what amounts to a cosmic hair's breadth early Wednesday morning. Source: http://xenuth.com/bl...this-wednesday/ It's the prove, that, we wre never safe....
Mr Skeptic Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I doubt most anyone would have noticed if they did hit earth (except if they read about it). We get hit by very small meteors all the time, most so small they burn up in atmosphere.
Darwinsbulldog Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I am just wondering why this post is in the ethics section.
Sisyphus Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I am just wondering why this post is in the ethics section. Indeed. Moved to science news. Per the topic, meteorites that size might not even have reached the ground. Meteorites in the 5-10m range hit the Earth about once a year, and they just explode in the upper atmosphere. From the ground it might look like a distant lightning flash. They need to be a lot bigger to really cause damage.
juantonwan Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 They only just detected these the previous Sunday?? Crazy.
Darthoper Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 Thats pretty sweet. I am wondering as to what would happen say a 20m meteor hit our atmosphere? Would it make it to the grround or look like a flaming ball in the sky?
