LED lamps set to replace most conventional lamps

I just realised that some areas in my country are experimenting with LED lights , replacing the current fluorescent tubes. It seems this fad is on the rise. There is growth potential as they stated impressive savings in terms of energy and electrical bills.

From what I see of some products, the light is kind of a glaring brightness. I'm thinking of getting one to use in my aquarium.

although I don't know to what extent. If I think about it, Lasers are definitely capable to damaging the eyes, the next is soild state lasers which are laser diodes. This is due to the light being focus into a narrow beam. The laser diodes back in the day can't do holographs, as the beam wasn't narrow enough. I thought the LED was old technology, but they came up with the high power white light LED, which seems to be useful. but the circuitry is slightly more complex. I better relearn how to drive some LEDs. The LEDs beam of light wasn't as narrow as the laser diode, but probably due to the high power output, it could be hazardous.

To reduce the glaring properties,it may be possible to make a screen to diffuse the light. This probably cut down the efficiency slightly. Just some thoughts...

Any light source can be damaging to your eyes if you stare at it from very close range.

As the cost of LEDs goes down, that could have a very positive influence they may even be cheap enough to give away.

 

I really don't see the concern about any danger from LEDs.

i've got LED lighting in my room. the only danger they have posed so far is when i hit my head on them when i was drunk and jumping about in my room.

That is a hazard to consider with all objects. Remember kids: never leave your tequila stash next to the trampoline under the razor stalactites.

Don't say I never warn yall, the beam from LED is likely more directional than conventional lights. When you are jumping around when exposed to LED radiation, this is a new case. I've heard of mass epileptic seisures bought on by bright lights, so this could be something similar.

LED radiation? its light. yes, the light is slightly directional but its not more hazardous than putting a reflector around a normal light.

 

and it was not an epileptic seizure it was a case of me, getting home drunk after a good night out and having 'Jump da F*** Up' come on my mp3 player so i jumped da f*** up.... straight into my light.

 

the only way LED lights are going to damage your eyes are if you stare at them from close range. but then, a variety of conventional light sources will do that to, incandescents, fluorescents, halogens, the sun, etc. etc.

 

typically people aren't so stupid to do this. they may do it once or twice as kids, realise it physically hurts and stop doing it.
