stevekh Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 I just started intoductory astronomy and I have difficulty understanding this problem. Any help would be appreciated For a place at a latitude of 55 degrees, determine how high above the horizon the sun is at noon on 1) The Vernal Equinox 2) The summer solstice 3) Winter solstice
Ophiolite Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 What latitude are the equator, the tropic of Cancer and the tropic of Capricorn? Why have I asked you these three questions? That should give you enough hints?
CaptainPanic Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 It helps to draw a 2-dimensional picture (from the side obviously). Or play with a 3D version, using a lamp, and something spherical with the equator and earth's axis painted on it, and at the right angles.
