PhD thesis on arXiv

Should you put your PhD thesis (in mathematics, physics or similar) on the arXiv? What are the potential pros and cons? Will anyone read it anyway? Is yours online?

 

I am thinking about placing my thesis on the arXiv. To an extent it has been superseded by preprints since. Also, I do not think it contains anything particularly revolutionary or is of very wide interest.

 

Any thoughts and comments welcomed.

If you particuarly wanted people to read it, and someone had already expressed an interest in it, then I couldn't think of a better place for it to be hosted.

My thesis is hosted by the university. And I think there was an effort in the UK to digitize phd theses. At least that is what I heard a while ago.

Chances are that people are more interested in the published parts of it, though.

This is no problem here, I have all the files as LaTex and pdf.

This is my thought also.

 

All the parts I am happy with are either in a short preprint based on a talk I gave or have been generalised further and now published. There are parts of my thesis that I feel are not developed enough to seek publication, though they may be of interest to someone.
