I was wondering if it was possible to get NaCl03 through electrolysis of salt water, and get reasonable amounts of it using only a 9v battery.

would you have to increase the current and lower the voltage?

 

I heard somewhere anything above 3v in electrolysis just heats up the electrolyte.

getting the NaCLO3, using a 9V battery is fine, so long as you have decent rods to do it with, but obviously more current = more product, but its fine for normal use.

yes, but after a while the sodium hydroxide breaks down and reacts with chlorine (if they are not seperated as they are in that diagram), i think this is correct anyway, thats why i'm asking
