anishx10 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Hi friends iam in a project to replace the solenoid(5 volt) with a new device with low cost and to perform the same function(electrical input - mechanical output).kindly suggest ur ideas
TonyMcC Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It depends on what the solenoid does. The solenoid is probably the best device for your application. You could use an electric motor - but would need to switch it off at the end of the solenoid's travel, usually done with a micro-switch. If you allow the motor to stall you will probably burn it out.
darkenlighten Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 An electric motor, is essentially a solenoid , but this would be trick to create an electrical input that give a mechanical out put with out wrapping wire in some fashion, which is solenoids are more expensive than other inductor type of components, hence why they are usually avoided if possible in applications, where they are not the only option. With that in mind, this is not a trivial task, finding something that can cause a mechanical output not using electromagnets will be very tricky.
John Cuthber Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 You could, in principle, use piezoelectrics. The reason nobody does, is that they are a bit of a pig to use. (OK, they do get used for e few things where the distance needed is very small)
