YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 nope, most drain cleaners are alkaline, but some patio/path cleaners contain HCL
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 damn its back to finding some old car batterys or a company that service batteries which is probably near impossible
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 ok then where could i find some old cheap batterys
Gilded Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 That kno3 looks great, but still, it's in USA. And jsatan, oh how I tried! But all the sellers are in USA. Recently, I mailed to an American pyrotechnics company and I think they thought I was a freaking terrorist or something.
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 a local junk yard with scrap cars in it, they normaly keep the batts next to the office/shed
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 did you get your conical flask from scichem.co.uk if so how much did it cost
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 i forgot to ask as well your condenser which you made do you push it through your cork, most probably do thats what i am going to do and also why do you put you tube which is bent into the acid i thought it would be placed just above it
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 That kno3 looks great, but still, it's in USA. And jsatan, oh how I tried! But all the sellers are in USA. Recently, I mailed to an American pyrotechnics company and I think they thought I was a freaking terrorist or something. no its not in the USA did you not look at the prices there in pounds£ not dollars$ which means its in england
Gilded Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Whoops! I just saw "Cleveland" and thought it was Cleveland, Ohio. But apparently it's the state of Cleveland in England. Edit: Hmm, it's got "the strongest ammonia money can buy" and iodine crystals on the same page. Time for some nitrogen tri-iodide!
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 "i saw cleveland" but still the currancey would have given the country away nevermind ill let you off and we dont have states we have countys i i was thinking that but £40 for the ammonia im sure you can get it cheaper else where
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 did you get your conical flask from scichem.co.uk if so how much did it cost I did, they`re only up the road from me, and I bought a box of 10, I don`t rem the cost as it was a few years ago and the invoice is long hidden in a pile of paperwork since then, sorry.
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 its not good enough again back to the distilling the long tube you made(condensor) did you put it through the cork because thats what i will do and why did you put the tube in the acid not above the acid
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 through the cork then sealed up. IN because the vapors will condense better when bubbled THROUGH the acid rather than above it. and THAT will HAVE TO BE "Good enough"
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 i see where you are coming from thats brilliant thank you now all i need is the sulphuric acid
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 the acid`s cheap as chips and plentifull, you shouldn`t have a prob
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 which acid the one i posted in H2O2
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 no... the H2SO4 that we`ve been discussing in here all day
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 or right yes i will look around for some
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 have you looked at http://www.growell.co.uk and typed in nitric acid in the search button
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 indeed I have, and I`m pretty disgusted that you`ve known this and not once asked how to concentrate it
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 i am really sorry but like i said in the H2O2 post i thought it would have some really bad impurites to concentrate it though could i just boil it or would i have to distill it and besides i have learnd something from it one how to make nitric acid from potassium nitrate and sulphuric acid and two if i know of a link mention it at the start
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 so how would i concentrate 38% nitric acid to 70% would i just boil it or would i distill it and that nitric acid i mentiond would it have some impurites
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 add conc sulphuric to it and re-distill it, that`s all I do, just keep an eye on the gas color (or temp if you want to get fancy) LOL
boris_73 Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 does'nt that give you a concentration of about 98% because i only want 70% 98% is way to concentrated, couldnt i just boil it. and won't that nitric acid from the ph down have impurities or would it just be nitric acid and water
YT2095 Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 I`ve no way of knowing what impurities the PH Down has without having a sample, so I can`t really answer that for you in honesty, but re-distilation will elliminate them unless they have a lower BP, but even so, it`ll shift most
