k9ck024 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I have trouble understanding this question and I dont know how to solve this step by step. Can anyone help me? Thanks 1 in 1700 US Caucasian newborns have cystic fibrosis. C for normal is dominate over c for cystic fibrosis. 1) What is the equation for Hardy-Weinberg. What do p,q, 2pq, p^2, and q^2 represent? 2) Why are individuals with the recessive (cc) phenotype so important when calculating p and q? Thanks
HerpetologyFangirl Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I think a textbook would be a big help with this. I know mine was last semester, when I did this principle. If I remember correctly, p represented CC, q represented cc, and pq represented Cc. It's all about percentages of the population. Sorry I can't be of more help, I haven't got my textbook with me at the moment. Try doing some wiki and google. They really help.
