JoeSF35 Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I came home today and all of my receptacle cover plates were curled up. Is this a moisture problem or an excessive current problem? We just went through a hurricane and it knocked a hole in the roof and could have screwed with some other things. Any ideas on how to prevent this, or what's causing it?
drz Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 wow, thats pretty odd. I've seen one do something like that before, but it was obviously melted. It was plugged into an old AC, which locked up, kept drawing current and melted the wire, the cover, the box and the electrical wiring in the wall. Was your house flooded deep enough for the water level to reach the receptacles? Perhaps if the power was on, the water shorted them out causing that reaction. What kinda material are they made out of? If plastic, one sure fire way to prevent this from happening again would be to replace with some kinda ceramic or metal covers.
JoeSF35 Posted October 2, 2004 Author Posted October 2, 2004 They are made of plastic, and the flooding did not reach the receptacles. I havn't had any electrical problems since I got my power back, so I guess it was just moisture. Still seems odd though. Ceramic covers it is then.
