Martin Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 dunno what others think of the SF or SFN thing?... I prefer SFN for me "s f" means San Francisco or SciFi and it doesnt work as a replacement for SFN What do others think about celebrating 100K day with a bunch of new bubbles---to be used on that day only? Way to make the day special. Mardi Gras idea.
Gilded Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I think a science project competition would be appropriate for SFN. Or perhaps uploading a "Sayonara's Special Dance - 100 000 Posts Celebration Edition" video. Or an SFN Deathmatch at a shooter game like Quake 3.
bloodhound Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I would be up for unreal deathmatch.. only if my laptop could handle it
Lance Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Or an SFN Deathmatch at a shooter game like Quake 3. But then no matter what game we pick we will be excluding some one. Of course unless you guys want to buy 50 copies of unreal that would be nice.
blike Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 QUAKE 2. Who doesn't have it? Isn't the source available now so you can download it free?
MolecularMan14 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 gotta say man, NICE job on the mouse pad design. (I'd buy one in a second) I like the SFN one better. I like the idea of some new bubbles. I think we should introduce some new features that have never been here. Like an arcade, or something competitive (other than the top poster- no one will ever top Sayo ) or color schemes or something where you can personalize. Just a thought I dont have Quake 2...is it good? Where and should I get it?
5614 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 the SFN logo is cool, if you have a spare second maybe change the N to look like an N and not a lower case n... it should be a upper-case N n --> N !!! soz, it just looks a bit wierd at the moment! quake (as with all computer games) either buy it in a shop or download it from an illegal download site. i think that colour schemes it quite easy but not really most needed (or should i say wanted) feature... apparently there used to be an arcade (before my time) and it sounded really cool and so im suggesting it is brought back. can anyone tell me why it went in the first place?
Martin Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Glad you like the idea of some new bubbles, MolecularMan!
5614 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 yeah man, we rock! i dont think that they are that necesary and only still dont apply to all threads anyway (ie. you can only use em in GD and here - i think, not in the main sections anyway). whereas other suggestions would be applicable to all areas (themes) or always there for fun and amusement and some light competition (arcade area).
Sayonara Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I'm not making new bubbles for only one day. Pixel-perfect transparent gifs don't just happen, unfortunately.
5614 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 how easy would it be to re-install the arcade? also why was it taken down, as far as i can see it would only be good, although i trust your decesions so am asking as to why it was taken down in the first place?
Sayonara Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 The arcade mod was written for the last version of vBulletin, so it was wiped out when we moved from vBulletin 2.x to vBulletin 3.x.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Has it been updated to work with 3.x yet? It was fun!
Sayonara Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Apparently so: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=60377
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Oooh nice. I hope it gets put in at 100,000! Anyways, how about we add skins? I've been longing to for a LONG time.
5614 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 well i think you know my opinon..... but PLEASE add it! is there going to be anything special for the person who posts post #100,000 ? 980 to go, after this post! give it a week or two.
blike Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 968 posts left. When you hit reply, you can see your post number by looking in the address bar: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=99032
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Why then does the front page show less posts? Does it not count the moderators' forum or something?
Sayonara Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 It shows fewer posts because it's an actual count, whereas post id numbers always increment by 1 on the id of the last post made.
MolecularMan14 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 I dont think that it counts the General Discussion posts (as they're not pertaining to science)
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 It shows fewer posts because it's an actual count, whereas post id numbers always increment by 1 on the id of the last post made. So the post id includes deleted posts and stuff?
Sayonara Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Yes. In the mySQL database the post id is a key which always autoincrements by one. It doesn't need to know about what happened to historical post ids.
