Inline Notification?

Could someone please tell me exactly what this means? Thank you.

Inline notifications are the ones that appear in the drop-down at the top right of each page, and in the box on the right of the forum index.

Do you mean next to your username?

That's with the menu open. The drop-down is opened by clicking the number in the box, which represents how many unread notifications you have.
