littleboy Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 After 1 electron is removed from an specific atom, the successive ionization enthalpy of the specific atom will increase. But what i want to ask is that : Will the emission spectrum of it change?I have this guess because its orbital energy level seems to be changed already.
swansont Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Yes, the spectrum of an ion will generally be different than that of the neutral atom.
divy Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 yes of course the spectrum of that atom will be changed because now it will get +ve charge (as it has lost one electron) so it will behave like an ion rather than neutral ion so it will give different emission spectra
