I have a lot more information but first any ideas?

At first blush it looks like a piece of bone, possibly carved, but I see no reason from the pics to assume it's not a natural bone fragment shaped by natural forces.

Hello and like i said theres a lot more info but i had probs posting and lost a full page late last night, the artifact has been to 3 universitys and been viewed by archaeologists and geologists.

I have also had it viewed public on the net for 1 year now, it is carved and like other mineralized bone i have found has not been exposed to animals or the elements. I have found other items that i believe are tools i.e bone digging sticks and scrapers, ile post pics of them and give further info later today. thanks B,M

Those look amazing! Have you been able to identify any of them at all? What do you think they were used for?

They certainly appear to be worked bone impliments. (They could also be naturally worn.)

 

Can we have some more information? Where did you find them? When? How far down were they? What else did you find with them?

 

I notice the coin you use in the pics has the Queen on it. The ruler is a much better guage of size as coinage varies between nations and since I don't know the coin, I can't guage how big the item is from it.

 

But more information is required please, otherwise the answer can only be "They're bits of bone".

Not officaly but i have found matches for most. i.e the digging sticks

Hello i have buckets full of information but please bare with me,you would not believe the times i have passed this info on in the past year!

I have found all of my material in the area of stainton beck stainton village middlesbrough cleveland.

all of the bone is heavly mineralized with very little damage, none by animals or the elements, i have been finding them and stone artifacts for 5 years now and have reported them and had them looked at.But still have no possitive i.d.

I reasently visited the area with a archaeologist and geologist who had the idea i may have come across an ancient lake or river bed sediment? i have dug into this and have found preserved seeds wood bark very small mineralized bone.

But but again am finding getting any official body to commit almost inpossible, ile add more tomorrow but for now a lot of my stuff is on flicker under animal bones some used as tools thanks for comment B.M
