You take the small number, divide it by the bigger number and multiply by 100% giving you the exact percentage. 1.08% But it's not always "the smaller" divided by "the larger". If your regular pay is $641, and one week you work extra and earn $857, what percentage of your regular pay did you earn?

khaled Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 If the initial quantity is X and the new quantity is Y, then the ratio of difference between X and Y = ( Y / X ) * 100 % and the ratio of the advancement of Y over X = (Y - X)/X * 100 % so if X = 100, and Y = 150, Y:X = Y/X * 100 = 150/100 * 100 % = 1.5 * 100 = 150%, means Y is 150% of X (Y-X):X = (Y-X)/X * 100 = 50/100 * 100 % = 0.5 * 100 = 50%, means The Raise was 50% of the original Quantity
