IronParrot Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) 1.) Do you believe in evolution? 2.) Do you believe that the earth is 1,000,000 years old? 3.) Why? Tell us! Edited January 14, 2011 by IronParrot
swansont Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The evidence indicates that evolution is true, and that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old. 1
IronParrot Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Nope. The only scientist that predict is right, the earth is 6 million years old, not billion. Would you agree with it?
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 http://talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-age-of-earth.html 4.5 billion years old, give or take a bit. 1
IronParrot Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) But, I don't still get it. I'm confused why it's 4.55 or 4.54 billion yaers old the earth is. Edited January 14, 2011 by IronParrot
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Are you asking why it's so old or how we know how old it is?
IronParrot Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 Are you asking why it's so old or how we know how old it is? I'm just asking if how old earth is. I'm just confused why it's 4.4 or 4.5 billion years old not 6 million years old.
Mrs Zeta Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Nope. The only scientist that predict is right, the earth is 6 million years old, not billion. Would you agree with it? Why do you think it is 6 million? Is there any evidence you can produce? And, yes, evolution has happened and is happening (although I make a distinction between evolution by natural selection and evolution through other means).
insane_alien Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I'm just confused why it's 4.4 or 4.5 billion years old not 6 million years old. its older than 6 million because it is. lets assume you meet someone who is 25. would you ask them "why are you not 10?"?
Horza2002 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 I still don't understand what your asking? Are you asking how we know its 4.4 billion or why it isn't 6 million. The anwser to the second is that its not 6 million because its not!
StringJunky Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) The age of the Earth has been determined to be 4.54 billion years (4.54 × 109 years ± 1%).[1][2][3] This age is based on evidence from radiometric age dating of meteorite material and is consistent with the ages of the oldest-known terrestrial and lunar samples. Following the scientific revolution and the development of radiometric age dating, measurements of lead in uranium-rich minerals showed that some were in excess of a billion years old.[4] The oldest such minerals analyzed to date – small crystals of zircon from the Jack Hills of Western Australia – are at least 4.404 billion y old.[5][6][ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_the_Earth Edited January 14, 2011 by StringJunky 1
