prashant akerkar Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 congenital blindness-is it hereditary or genetic ? If a blind couple i.e born blind at birth had a child, would it be also born blind ? i.e both parents are born blind - congenital blindness, the child born from them i.e offspring will also be born blind ? thanks & regards, prashant s akerkar
ewmon Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 congenital blindness-is it hereditary or genetic ? I don't know, but I think most congenital blindness is not genetic. I have not heard of cautions for blind people not to have children out of concern that they would also be born blind.

Mr Skeptic Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I'm pretty sure that there can be genetic reasons to be born blind, but it can also be non-genetic reasons. You'd have to ask a doctor about a particular case if you want to know.
