jbear Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I am curious and the information I find is conflicting. Do fungus-like protists have a chitin (or other polysaccharide-based) cell wall? Thanks all!
JorgeLobo Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Some protists produce polysaccharide cell walls such as Phytophthora (here cellulose). There have been reports of chitin in cyst walls of Giardia and Entamoeba but not as major component and perhaps more assemblages of n-acetyl glucosamine more than chitin in a fungal structural context.
