question Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 hello everybody! what does it mean when a gel you use in gel filtration has a "cut off 2.000 daltons" ? i have looked for the answer, but can't find it. hopes for replies! many thanks!
drjimbob Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Hi, the 2,000 dalton refers to a molecular weight cut off point. The beads used in gel filtration have certain sized pores which allow molecules to either pass through them or not. In this case the maximum size of the molecule that can pass though the pores will have a molecular weight of ~ 2,000. Hope this helps
