Doc. Josh Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Could someone please give me the (scientific) reasoning for this?
Xittenn Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 The scientific reasoning for why someone would wish to use simple lighting effects and computer video compositing to create a video to put on youtube that claims the existence of aliens? I think this is a deeply psychological issue that surmounts to a human desire to attain meaning in ones life. Our general lack of justification for our own existence is often readily most apparent when we become bored and feel that life has nothing to present us. This serves to remind us of our own lack in value and we feel degraded. Creating videos like these gives the individuals who have done so the opportunity to imagine events that break the mundane in their lives in hopes of escaping their feelings of worthlessness. By sharing them on youtube they allow others to participate in their imagined reality and this gives them some gratification in that they may have for a moment allowed others to forget their own feelings of lack of self worth and have allowed others to be excited about the world around them. 1
Doc. Josh Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Agreed, But however the fact remains that there are true things that cannot be explained which is my main point here. Rather its lights or specks whatever the case. what's the closest possible explanation for these occurances?
Phi for All Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 what's the closest possible explanation for these occurances? Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and reflected the light from Venus. It's right there on page 26 of the MiB handbook.
Doc. Josh Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 See now thats a real answer! sounds logical enough to me (stole from ydoaps) downs shades flash.....
JohnB Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Why was I replying to this thread? I seem to have forgotten.

Moontanman Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 While I am the first to say that the subject of alien space craft visiting the Earth needs more real investigation than the subject has received so far, nondiscript lights in the sky neither prove nor disprove anything...
Marat Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 The usual explanation given for the eagerness of people to take even flimsy evidence as suggesting that aliens exist is that with the decline of religious belief, humans no longer feel contexted in the universe, and so we look to an empirical substitute for the metaphysical framing condition of a god, and find it in aliens. At least if there are aliens, we can define and understand ourselves relative to some other sentient being, so we can escape the existential challenge of defining ourselves without any external support or meaning context.
insane_alien Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) i fail to see any proof there. we don't think of aliens as some controlling entity or even a reference point for deciding our place in the universe. life managed to appear on this rock so it is possible that it has appeared on other rocks as well. this is the current consensus on extra terrestrial life. and most of it will likely be microbial maybe even plant like. technological civilizations such as ours probably exist to. even the most pessimistic estimates for the probabilities of life turn up an astounding number of alien life. so there probably are aliens out their, I doubt if they are aliens as depicted by hollywood though. rigney Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) I have probably used this rationale several times. But; why would ("aliens") or celestial travelers not want to reveal themselves to us? If we are so far below their superior intellect, doing so would not jeapordise their mission in any way! Then again, being intelligent doesn't always mean that you are smart????? Does this mean other species doesn't exist out there, even in our own galaxy? I don't know! Edited April 30, 2011 by rigney
insane_alien Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 who says aliens would have a superior intellect? who says they're visiting the earth? I believe aliens exist, I don't believe that they're probing rednecks in the rear end or even anywhere near here.
Moontanman Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Why would they want to reveal themselves to us? Just because we would drop in and steal their land and do our best to control them doesn't mean they would have the same desires, i doubt aliens would even want planets at all. Deep gravity wells would be places to avoid.
