1123581321 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) I was wondering if anyone could give me a good way to easily remember the groups of the table of elements, such as metals, alkali metals and so forth. or more so, why they are called what they are.. and/or what correlation their properties have with their name and how/ways to remember them etc and also, why stable atoms are willing to give away electrons... Horza2002 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 The alkalie metals are called that because when they react with water, they give an alkaline solution. Theres no real easy way to do this, you just need to sit down and learn them.
CaptainPanic Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Most periodic tables use different colors to indicate the different groups of elements. The problem that any beginning student is facing is that the periodic table actually contains a LOT of information. Just study a lot - I promise it's worth it.
