Smbat Gevorgyan Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Hello everybody, my name is Smbat, I am from Armenia, I am a master's student. Genetics is my future profession and now I am doing my thesis work. But I have difficulties to find proper web site to use information from it. Could anyone be so kind to advise me web sites which would contain a lot of up to date information about everything which concerned with genetics.
Ringer Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Your university's library website should have somewhere you can look up journal articles online for free.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 You can also use sites like Google Scholar to search scholarly literature: http://scholar.google.com/ Just check the source of the works you find -- sometimes it searches through rather strange books along with genuine scientific journals.

Thank you , but I am more interested to find website about genetics. I searched it many times but each website I've found has certain disadvantages and drawbacks.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Could you be more specific? Are you looking for a website that summarizes everything that is currently known about genetics?
pwagen Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 What is your thesis about? Genetics in general seems a VERY broad subject for a thesis. And normally, web sites aren't the best sources to use for such a project.

But in general i want to know what is happening in genetic world, be aware everything important which are happening every day.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 If you want to learn about ongoing research and recently published experiments, you almost certainly need to use something like Google Scholar to look at actual research papers and actual experimental results. Also check with your school's library -- it may have online access to various databases of research. Scientific papers are the primary source for any research project. If you want to keep up on new research without going into detail, you can try a science news site like ScienceDaily.
