Anybody know why Hematoxylin Harris needs to be heated then cooled rapidly?

All methods Ive read say this...its a pain. Wondering if this is a method that has past its day, that maybe new hematoxylin harris can be made just as effective without the boiling/then "plunging into ice cube water".
