WhiteAndNerdy Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 This is my 1st post. im a student i wanted to know How Is Quantum Theory Different From Wave Theory Of Light ? How Does It Justify Black Body Radiation / Line Spectrum Of h2
WhiteAndNerdy Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) nope im just trying to understand the concept , i understood that light travels in straight lines but how does that show that light cannot be waves but instead particles. i have exams coming up after a long time and i dont want to cram up , so im trying to understand the concept so it becomes easier to solve problems Edited May 13, 2011 by WhiteAndNerdy
swansont Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Wave theory doesn't include the discrete, localized energy interaction one sees in excitation, the photoelectric effect, and other interactions. The blackbody solution from looking at quantized energy replaced the failed notion of equipartition of energy, which predicted that blackbodies radiate infinite power http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet_catastrophe The line spectrum of any atom or molecule being discrete is a direct result of solving the Schrödinger wave equation with the required boundary conditions.
