A groundworker friend of mine found two of these objects about two metres down in the UK in a clay layer...any info on what they might be? It is 65mm long and 20mm at the wide end.

It does indeed look very squid-like. I also think it is a belemnite, but I am no expert. It is a nice find whatever it is.

Yes, we thought it might be a squid-like fossil but we didn't know the name...now we know! :)

He has quite an interesting job sometimes finding stuff like this disturbing ground at some depth in often restricted areas like military camps. He found a Roman bowl and mosaic pieces which later revealed a Roman settlement...he said an archaeologist, who was on call at the time because this sort of find was possible was absolutely rapt with my friends discovery of the bowl...like it was the Holy Grail! Out went the the JCB diggers and in went the trowels and scrapers!

Thanks guys.

Interesting! I can't think of anything right now, but for sure it's something that should be look into by the proper authorities; it could lead us to something that happen thousand years back.
