rktpro Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) Did you observe the total lunar eclipse? It was amazing! What do you say? Edited June 16, 2011 by rktpro
michel123456 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) I did. I had 3 thoughts. 1. A lunar eclipse is an eclipse for all inhabitants of the Earth that can observe the Moon at this particular instant. Not true for a solar eclipse. 2. A lunar eclipse happens always upon a full moon. 3. why can we observe a full moon without eclipse? I thought because the sun is huge compared to the size of Earth & Moon. Janus Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I did. 3. why can we observe a full moon without eclipse? I thought because the sun is huge compared to the size of Earth & Moon. Because the Moon's orbit around the Earth is inclined 5.1 degrees to the ecliptic. During most full moons, the Moon passes "below" or "above" the Earth's shadow.
