Mad_Furby Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I’ve seen people blowing smoke rings and dolphinsblowing bubble rings I was wondering if it was a physical possibility to do thesame thing but through soil or sand or whether its too dense. What exactly is a vortex ring? Is it ashock wave of force carrying another substance or is it an actual particle flow Furbs
swansont Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Air bubbles and smoke rings are different substances than the medium, so I think it's clear that it's actual flow rather than a density fluctuation.
imatfaal Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 You can get fairly coherent ring vortices with a single substance though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_bazooka We had one similar to these one Christmas - and you could knock down Greetings cards from at least 20 feet
