Stefan-CoA Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 America! Hah. No. I'm quite happy in South Africa, so I'd stay here. Furthest I'd go is Norway or Sweden maybe, free tertiary education and all, for my future kids. Otherwise SA is pretty awesome to live in.

Car jackings, muggings, shootings etc. Also the level of HIV/AIDS is very high. Does not sound like a nice place to me. But then away from the townships it is probably ok. Citizenship is not what I would want as I am a citizen of my country but there are systems where people can have dual nationality , that's not for me . I would like to go to the U.S. and spend a year there having a look around . But a year has a habit of changing to more than a year because of the unknown happenings and there is also the fact that when a person goes to a foreign country there are those who want to know you will still be around in a few years if they put time and money into training you to work for them , the complete opposite also exists , those who just don't care who you are and where you are from . Tough world !

If a few poor children have to starve to death, lose their chance of an education, suffer from inadequate healthcare, etc. to keep those taxes low, then that's just the price of doing business. Add to that its high crime rates, uniquely high rate of imprisonment, its penchant for imperialist wars, and the utter, Jerry Springer dumbness of vast stretches of the country, and it is a pure horror to live there. The more socially progressive countries of Northern Europe and Canada have a superior cultural niveau, excellent social safety nets, superb public institutions, and first-rate public transport. They are also more reluctant to embark on imperialistic adventures, and crime is not an everyday threat, even in the major cities. However, if you have grown up in the culture of American liberty, then the smug, stultifying, repressive vision of 'human rights' in these countries, which just take if for granted that no one should have free speech if it irritates anyone else, etc., will make your blood boil, especially when you see how sheepishly the public accepts any abuse from their 'democratic' governments. tomgwyther Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I'd go for Bhutan For many reasons; cheif among which would be that It's a constitutional monarchy, and the only country to have a measure of GNH (Gross national happiness) Another choice might be Costa Rica. Again many reasons for such a choice. primarily the good weather, it also ranks near the top of the Human development index, and, it constitutionally abolished it's army. Failing these two choices, the area where I currently live (New Forest national park. U.K) is pretty near perfect. It's just a shame that the institution which calls itself my government is such a nefarious farce.
