Sayonara Posted February 13, 2003 Posted February 13, 2003 ICQ and AOL have had their DNS servers hacked - ICQ.com is down and the timer on AOL is about to hit zero. Cerulean have released a patch for Trillian but I recommend disconnecting from all ICQ, AOL or AIM services for the timebeing.
fafalone Posted February 13, 2003 Posted February 13, 2003 My connection to AIM is fine. But if the DNS server does go down... login.oscar.aol.com = 64.12.161.185
Sayonara Posted February 13, 2003 Author Posted February 13, 2003 C:\>ping http://www.icq.com Unknown host http://www.icq.com Ho ho ho. AOL is proving more resilient but their responses are done to nearl 500 ms. The culprits: (verified by changes to DNS entries 20 minutes ago) http://rulog.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=1;t=158 DNS now: Name Server: DNS-01.ICQ.NET Name Server: DNS-02.ICQ.NET Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK Name Server: DNS-02.NS.AOL.COM Name Server: DNS-01.NS.AOL.COM Name Server: DNS-06.NS.AOL.COM Name Server: DNS-07.NS.AOL.COM Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK DNS then: AOL.COM.IS.N0T.AS.1337.AS.GULLI.COM AOL.COM.CANT.STOP.US.IFUD.COM AOL.COM ICQ.COM.IS.INSECURE.VISIT.US.FOR.PROVE.IFUD.COM ICQ.COM
fafalone Posted February 13, 2003 Posted February 13, 2003 Don't their WWW servers get taken down on a weekly basis now?
Sayonara Posted February 13, 2003 Author Posted February 13, 2003 Vulnerabilities in the clients get exploited all the time, but nothing this funny has happened for ages
fafalone Posted February 13, 2003 Posted February 13, 2003 I thought it was pretty funny when someone hacked the RIAA's home page and posted links to p2p programs.

Sayonara Posted February 16, 2003 Author Posted February 16, 2003 Originally posted by NSX How'd you get this? Using the WHOIS tool on internic's website. You can use it to check the DNS entries for a domain.
