sapan soni Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Dnt knw where to put this topic. Is it possible to make an auto mobile higher efficient engine using NITINOL? If possible then how? Are they patterned?
InigoMontoya Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 I'm utterly confused. By what mechanism would you be expecting an efficiency increase simply by adding NITINOL to the design? Where would you add it? What would it's function be?
Externet Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 What component of the engine would you make with nitinol ? Or do you mean to design an engine based on nitinol properties? There is some gadgets and science experimentation kits using nitinol, and probable one of the kits includes a toy car. I believe nitinol was found by high tech companies analyzing the fuselage material of a recovered flying disc; but was not part of its propulsion.
sapan soni Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 I didnt mean IC engine... I wanna make engine using the property of NiTInol.
CaptainPanic Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 I didnt mean IC engine... I wanna make engine using the property of NiTInol. So, you do NOT want to make an internal combustion engine. But you do want to make an engine. What kind of engine?
Skye Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 (edited) I guess sapan soni means an engine based around a nitinol element than alternates between austenitic and martensitic forms, then this translational motion is converted into rotational motion mechanically. It would require an electrical supply to function, putting it into competition with conventional electrical motors, which I doubt it would compete with. And anyway, it would have the same existing problems electrical energy storage. Edited July 25, 2011 by Skye
Externet Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 There is good examples and experiments in the net; here you have a few : http://www.winstonbrill.com/bril001/html/article_index/articles/1-50/article12_body.html http://www.packratworkshop.com/hotwater7.htm www.imagesco.com/nitinol/files/heatengine2.pdf Think about them and develop your own.
