Horza2002 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Do you mean how to make haloforms (as in chloroform, bromoform, etc) or how to do the haloform reaction? The haloform reaction converts a methyl ketone into a carboxylic acid using Iodine and hydroxide. The side product of this reaction is iodoform. Bromoform and clhloroform are noth side product in the Appel reaction in which an alcohol is converted to a halide using triphenylphosphine or CCl4 or CBr4.
