jjjjj Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 OK if organelles are recycled by lysosmes does that mean the same matter is recycled into organelles over and over until cell dies
MM6 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 No. The cell continuously imports and exports matter.
jjjjj Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 why are organellees recyceed then? also is all matter imported exported or does some stay
MM6 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Organelles need to be recycled if there are too many of a given type at a given time. Also, the proteins, fats, and carbohydrates that compose the organelles become defective through wear and tear: exposure to various chemical reactions (enzymes, free radicals, etc), defects due to changes in pH and temperature, physical trauma. Atoms are in constant flux across the cell membrane due to concentration gradients (and active transport processes). A cell is not a closed system, it's that simple. It leaks.
jjjjj Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 well what i read is that old organels get recycled by lysosome Also that only oxygen and urea leave cell.
MM6 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 RE your second sentence: I don't know where you read that or what you read, but that's just so wrong, it's nonsensical. I'm just describing basic biology.
jjjjj Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 Thats what the waste products of cells are...
