Primarygun Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 How to speak english well? Where should I take the voice up and where I take it down?
bloodhound Posted October 20, 2004 Posted October 20, 2004 just watch a lot of BBC. and try to learn received pronounciation (RP) from someone
MolecularMan14 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 British Broadcasting Company. A broadcasting network in the UK. You can get it anywhere in the world with satellite/cable. I watch Montey Python all the time
boris_73 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Montey python's films are great, ive also managed to find there old shows on a channel, may i ask why do you wish to speake english well? if you are an american
boris_73 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 speaking english well should be in your blood:)
YT2095 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 you can listen to BBC I-Net broadcasts on your `puter too, or just get a Shortwave radio and listen to the BBC World Service
Gilded Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I got straight 10's (or A's, if you insist :> ) at English during my 5th and 6th grade. Then, when I went to 7th, the teacher was an idiot (hey, it's always the teacher, not the student! :> ). But as soon as I went to high school, I got a 10 from the first course. I have played English computer games since when I was 5 or something, also watching a lot of English movies and series (especially Monty Python ) has helped a big deal. As for the games, anything with English speech is fine if that's what you're looking for.
YT2095 Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 I must comment, that even though English is a second language to you, you write better than some natives! you`de get an A+ from me too (if I were an Engluish teacher that is). you have plenty to be pleased with in your acheivement!
Gilded Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Actually, English is the third language to me. We HAVE to learn Finnish, Swedish and English. And because we have free schooling, we really HAVE TO. Not that free schooling is a bad thing. It's even stated in the law that Finland is a two-language country, with both Finnish and Swedish as national languages. English and other ones come after those. Strangely, everyone I know speaks better English than Swedish.
Primarygun Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 ARe Norway and Sweden very friendly with Finland? How to write a better composition? I always fail:P
Sorcerer Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I think the composition was fine. However you might want to look at the second line. How to is a bit colloquial, it is used in speech, but the correct grammar is: How do I/How can I Edited for bad use of english LOL.
Primarygun Posted October 22, 2004 Author Posted October 22, 2004 Really? I thought it was usual for foreigners. By the way, thank you
Gilded Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 "ARe Norway and Sweden very friendly with Finland?" NO! We think Swedes are fruitcakes and the Norwegians are country hicks. Just kidding. Though Sweden has fought about 0 wars, and didn't help squat when Finland was in trouble. Finland has been under control of Sweden and Russia, so it's quite normal to make jokes of such countries. By the way Primary, what does that HK in your location stand for? No country comes to mind.
boris_73 Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 quote "By the way Primary, what does that HK in your location stand for? No country comes to mind. :p" i have wanted to know that as well
J'Dona Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Wouldn't HK refer to Hong Kong? I think you got the answer you needed in bloodhound's post, Primarygun: BBC and just listening to people talk. Definitely Monty Python too. In fact, they should make Monty Python required viewing in English classes in China, because, uh... humour is proven to aid in the learning process?
boris_73 Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 i love monty python and did you know they all met in university some went to cambridge and some went to oxford
Gilded Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 "Wouldn't HK refer to Hong Kong?" I thought so too, but it could be like... well like... ok, I can't think of any other place right now.
bloodhound Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 i love monty python and did you know they all met in university some went to cambridge and some went to oxford i think u will find that all of them went to Oxbridge
Rasori Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 HK is a team in my state... Haddam-Killingworth. Maybe he's just not sure which LOL. Hong Kong is much more likely, though.
boris_73 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 to be honest i thought HK might be a place in russia or slovnia, dont ask why
boris_73 Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 Bloodhound ill think you'll find they actually went to oxford and cambridge heres a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python#History_.28pre-Python.29
