pearl1994 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 okay, someone on yahoo Answers asked: ''Which microorganism is most tolerant when changing PH level and why? I said yeast because it can only be changed with salt or oil. Im probably wrong. '' I searched the net but i just didn't find anything that answered it. (i have to say i wasn't THAT thorough) the question fascinated me so i came over here to see if anyone can tell me WHICH MICROORGANISM that most tolerates a change in the pH? so anyone?
emeraldgirl08 Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I can't think of any except for microorganisms that are able to form endospores. Interesting question though.
John Cuthber Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Most yeasts are not happy outside the pH range from about 3 to about 5 so they are not very tolerant.
Realitycheck Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Chydorus sphericus, a Great Lakes zooplankton, lives in 3.4 to 9.5 and Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria, grows from 4.5 to 9.6.
pearl1994 Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 i suppose, there are many. thanks for answering though!
Realitycheck Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Somewhere, I read that pneumoniae was the toughest, but couldn't find any corroborating evidence or details.
