Hello. I am new to the forum and found it by accident. In the last two years, my husband and I both have unexplained or can't be found by doctors health issues that seemingly become instantly triggered by stress. I have Hyper-coagulation and am trying to deal with it the best way I can. I recently talked to a doctor about my husband who seemingly has overnight "growth" spurts. He had a massive stroke in January 2011. What baffled doctors then and last year around May and June and then again in September of 2010 was a sudden weight gain within a 48 hour period of 200 plus pounds and a height increase of three inches! The erratic heartbeat and blood pressure and the sudden drop within seconds is what concerned doctors and triggered the strokes. After talking with a weight loss doctor and surgeon about these incidents, he told me of a medical phenominon of a possible "morphing" gene that my husband may have inherited. After careful consideration, there were ancestors who were known "giants" of yesteryear commonly referred to as "titans" in his liniage. My husband still has mini-strokes, seizures and rock-hardening skin when this sudden weight and height gain occurrs. It renders him emobile and he has great difficulty breathing and functioning. We both have heard of people with these health issues like the Chinese man and woman in the Guisness Book and my husband knows that there are Wrestlers with the problem and one (Andre the Giant) who died with the related disease. Many Sumo wrestlers exhibit this type of health issue, but all of those had "gradule" developements in their years. My husband's is almost instant. Is there such a thing as a morphing gene of this type? The doctor said that it is scientifically possible to "shrink" the gene or to "stall and paralyze" the gene but it might be too dangerous to remove or "kill" it all together. My husband said a series of automobile accidents could have been his trigger mechanism or browm recluse spider bites that left him in a wheelchair for several months may have been. And in the last year and three-quarters, helping me overcome my stresses could have contributed. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Mary Fox

Are you saying your husband gained 200+ pounds and three inches in height within a 48-hour period last May or June, then it happened again in September, and then had a massive stroke this past January? Were these cumulative increases or did they subside between events? Is he now 400 pounds and six inches taller than he was in April 2010?

Is this documented anywhere, Mary Fox? Because I can't find anything corroborating this online, yet I would think your "baffled doctors" would've submitted this unique case to a journal somewhere.

Physically, you can't eat enough food to gain 200 pounds in 2 days. The stomach isn't big enough. And without eating to gain weight, where is the weight coming from? Where could 200 pounds of human tissue come from without being converted from food? Morphing (if it existed) would require the mass to be present in the first place.

That isn't physically possible unless he consumed 200 pounds worth of food and drink in 2 days, now bare in mind that it is said you should drink 2 litres of water a day that is the equivalent to 4.4 pounds and 1kg of bolognese is the equivalent of 12 servings and contains 2580 Calories and a man is supposed to consume 2500 per day, so he would have to have eaten 45kg of bolognese a day which is around 500 servings. ;)

Not unless you're a caterpillar.

I have no idea what "shrink" refers to (maybe reduce expression of), you can't shrink a gene, I assume "stall and paralyse" means inhibit, but I fail to see how you have come to the conclusion this is a genetic problem. The problem you have described, despite being impossible in its current form as you have clearly sensationalised it, most likely isn't any fixable genetic problem.

Far more detail is needed for instance how much did he weigh before he put on 200 pounds? What was his diet? What was his job? What is his family history? Has he had any CT or MRI scans and what of? How long did it actually take him to put on 200 pounds? Where have you got this idea from that it is genetic?
