aurigus Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 This kind of caught be by surprise, there is a total lunar eclipse tonight and it is the last one until 2007. I am excited for this, especially because I just moved out into Amish country and there are no lights around us; it is extremely dark out there - great viewing area. Nice article on it: http://space.com/spacewatch/eclipse_041027.html Live webcast and maps of the eclipse area: http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/LEmono/TLE2004Oct28/TLE2004Oct28.html It looks like it will be viewable from most of the earth besides S.E. Asia and Australia. See how your viewing area will be: http://cleardarksky.com/csk/
Guest sri_90 Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 On the bbc website it says the eclipse is on Oct. the 28th but thats probably because i live in the uk, either way theres no chance of me doing any observing due to the weather
aurigus Posted October 27, 2004 Author Posted October 27, 2004 Yeah luckily it will be fairly good viewing here tonight. Here (EST) it begind around 8:15pm and peaks around 10:15pm. That would be early morning UTC.
TimeTraveler Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 Providing the weather is decent I will be watching this with my physics class.
aurigus Posted October 27, 2004 Author Posted October 27, 2004 Even though they are fairly common they are neat to watch. Things like this first got me interested in astronomy.
Sayonara Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 On the bbc website it says the eclipse is on Oct. the 28th but thats probably because i live in the uk, either way theres no chance of me doing any observing due to the weather I suspect this means tonight, after midnight.
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Fortunately I get to watch it - for me it should be starting in about 5 minutes. Whee!
cubexican Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I just got back from school, I was playing badmitton in the gym. I watched the eclipse outside afterwards.
Guest highoct Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 I saw it from work this evening. I first saw it when it was about 3/4 black. It was cool 'cause I had never seen one before!
Sorcerer Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Damn, no eclipse here in NZ, its overcast anyway.
Gilded Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Damn, I woke up about 45 minutes early (normally 7:30 AM, now 6:45) to see it. It was worth it though, and anyways the next one is @ 2007.
TimeTraveler Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Yeah it was great, I watched it from 1st contact to 3rd. I have never seen one before
aurigus Posted October 28, 2004 Author Posted October 28, 2004 It was decent seeing here, some very high clouds occasionally obscured the view. It wasn't as red as it normally gets I think, just got darker and then lighter.
Gilded Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 Hmmm... Didn't some ancient native tribe (can't remember the country) carry out VILE and BRUTAL sacrifices during the "red moon"?
