JustinW Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I heard a good quote today and thought I'd share. In all the years of evolution you would think that at least one buzzard would have said," Maybe we ought to drag it off the road." I don't know who it's by, but it struck me funny when I read it.
StringJunky Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) I don't get it. The joke seems to be based on the (erroneous) premise that Evolution is a goal-driven mechanism ie towards "better" and the buzzards still aren't yet evolved enough to take their meal to the side of the road where it's safer. Could have been authored by an evolution-denier or even somebody who understands evolution but is just being humorously absurd when they viewed it from said purpose-driven viewpoint. Phi for All Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I don't get it. No, no, it's funny because it's about the evolution of behavior, which B. F. Skinner wrote about, and buzzards eat the flesh off dead animals, which makes them "skinners" too. Plus, I think B. F. stood for Buzzard Feast. I'll have to double check.
