What is the significance if these are produced at CERN. What will this mean for the world of physics??

it will mean that certain theories about the fundemental nature of the universe can be discarded and other ones can be investigated further.

woo the wild number of hypotheses about the universe has been drastically reduced.

 

still loads of them left. now we can concentrate on finding out the properties of this particle and the consequences it has for theory.

This discovery importance is a finding(5 or 6 sigma data better) a particle related to the background - unseen world.

The Higgs boson is perfectly compatible with string theory.

I actually agree The Higgs Boson actually would make testing for String theory much easier and maybe even produce results which could put string theory even further since mass is stringy after all (jk until evidence proves otherwise).
