njaohnt Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I need to make a model Dome of Rock. Source: www.bibleplaces.com The only idea that I've come up with is making a paper dome. Other wise, I have no clue.
ydoaPs Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 What size? Does it have to have the interior as well? Does it need to be to scale?
Phi for All Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Googling "Dome of Rock model", I got this: http://commons.wikim...l_by_Schick.JPG I like this one too: http://www.reuters.com/article/2007/02/20/us-palestinians-israel-shrine-idUSL2046161620070220 Possibly painted foamboard and a styrofoam dome?

michel123456 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 A good material is foam board. Other material more expensive is balsa wood Don't use hard paper, the result will not be good. Alternatively you can use cardboard. (containerbord) If you can get drawings of the elevations of the temple (facades), you can print the elevations at some reasonable scale and glue them on the cardboard, then cut carefully around with a cutter (olfa cutter type), then collate all together. If it is your first model, you'll need help. You may find some valuable information about the building plans at this address. 1

I found some architectural drawings downloadable at ArchNet.org. They may have the elevations michel mentioned. I don't know if they're AutoCAD files or not, or if they'll help, but it's worth a try.

You'll have to check if you can use them, for homework I suppose you can, always mentionning your source. After downloading you need only to look at Dome3.dwg: Dome of the Rock If you don't have Autocad, you may find a free viewer on the Net (Google "free Autocad viewer), then extract with a printscreen (also free on the web). The most difficult will be to do that at scale.
imatfaal Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 For an easier model than attempting a reconstruction from Architectural plans (a great project but very difficult) you could try googling "paper craft dome of the rock" I found this pretty quickly here http://paper-replika...5&Itemid=200144
njaohnt Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 Thank you. If I used your idea, you got a +!
