Have set this up myself from parts and I am having problems with it over heating. The only way I can run it is to remove the side panel and have a pedestal fan blowing at full speed into the case at full speed.

Can anyone suggest a compact but powerful type of fan, that would give the same air flow as the pedestal fan, but that I would be able to attach (with some modification) to the outside of the side panel over the vent for the usual 80mm case fans.

Basically I want to be able to funnel the total air flow from the pedestal fan through the 80mm or so vent in the side panel. 240V fan is OK.

First, make sure the cooling fan on it is properly installed with a right amount of cooling paste.

It has an all copper heat sink which was brand new and had a film of thermal paste on it.

The fact that the weather has been rather hot lately no doubt does not help. But even so it will run no problems at all as long as the pedestal fan in blowing on it. Take the fan away and try and run it even with the side panel still open and it still either hangs or reboots.

So it is clearly an air flow issue.

What sorts of case fans are there, and how many?

You can also run something like SpeedFan, which will tell you the temperature inside your case so you can understand what causes it to rise.

I have tried it with two standard case fans mounted n the bck panel and side panel and oriented in a combination ways - pushing air out or drawing air in.

In every case there is not anough air flow through the case to provide adequate cooling. The fans are just not strong enough.

I have seen the water cooling systems but I would rather not go down that path given that I have been able to adequately cool the system with a large enough air flow using a rather large fan. Theoretically it is possible to do the same with the case enclosed but with a compact 240V fan or blower blowing air in from the outside through the vent in the side panel.

Unless it is possible to manually underclock the CPU to 3GHz so it generates less heat.
