5614 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Occasionally i get the message shown below. it doesnt last for long (about 5 mins) but this is not the first time this has happened. i think that this site is getting ever more popular and there is an increase in traffic. maybe a bandwidth upgrade is in order. obviously it costs money, but just something to monitor.
blike Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 That's not really a bandwidth issue, it's a "server load" issue. Essentially the site is programmed to kick out that error message when the work load on the server is high. It's designed to keep the server from crashing. How often and when do you get that message?
MolecularMan14 Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 well, i got it about half an hour ago. It really doesnt happen often to me maybe three times a month, and after maybe two more "refresh" clicks, things begin to work again.
blike Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hrm. Thanks for the heads up, we'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully not too many users are getting that message.
5614 Posted November 10, 2004 Author Posted November 10, 2004 thanks to you man indeed! i get it maybe as molecularman suggested... 3 times a month. normally it will go back up with in a few little minutes (as long as it takes to reply to emails normally!) not really a common problem just something (quote 1st post): "obviously it costs money, but just something to monitor"
5614 Posted November 29, 2004 Author Posted November 29, 2004 as you may have noticed it has just happened again.... as i've said before, it does happen every now and again, but this time it happened for longer and there was some new fancy message about an automated email being sent to the tech staff. whilst some may call this a therefore seperate incident, it all started off with the original SFN server is busy sign, then later it moved onto the new "email 2 tech staff" message. Hopefully not too many users are getting that message. everyone on IRC got it.
YT2095 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 There seems to have been a slight problem with the database. Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser. An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists. We apologise for any inconvenience today and 2 days ago I got that as well
5614 Posted November 29, 2004 Author Posted November 29, 2004 i just wanna make it clear: There seems to have been a slight problem with the database. Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser. An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff' date=' who you can also contact if the problem persists. We apologise for any inconvenience [/quote'] where "refresh" and "Technical Staff" were hyperlinks, one to refresh one to email them.
boris_73 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 yes this has happend to me with the new message once yesterday and once today
blike Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 That's the SQL server choking. It usually resolves itself fairly quickly, but sometimes it causes the hole thing to crash. Nothing I can really do about that except hope it doesn't choke again :\
Cap'n Refsmmat Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 BOTH of them just happened ten minutes ago. ARRRRGH! I thought the server advertised good uptime...
Gilded Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Yarrrhh, thar be choking about. I'm rather annoyed with the forums being inaccessible for even over hour-long periods, especially when I'm about to post jokes.
