Digging out anyone’s age

Mental Math

Recommended Posts

First of all, pick the number of days a week that you would like to eat out.

Multiply this number by 2. Add 5. Multiply it by 50.

If you have already had your birthday this year . . . add 1762 If you have NOT had your birthday yet this year . . . add 1761

Subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should now have a three digit number:

The first digit of this was your original number (i.e. how many times you want to go out to eat each week).

The second two digits are your age!!!

You can also amaze your friends or family members by asking them to pick a number between 1 and 10 and then follow the whole process.

2012 is the only year it will ever work, so spread the fun while it lasts...

Or, you know, instead of multiplying, adding, multiplying, adding, subtracting, and then asking them to interpret the results correctly by looking at the specific digits -- I count 6 operations there --

one could just subtract the year they were born from the current year (something you asked them for in your steps) and get the answer directly in 1 operation.

Frankly, my friends and family are intelligent enough not to be 'amazed' by arithmetical operations.
