Interactive OS

I want to start working on an opensource project to break up the monotony of school. I'm thinking of an OS that uses voice commands to interact with the user.

If I tell windows 7 I want to play a game and some music and while you're at it show me the latest sports news windows just stares at you blankly. What kind of shit is that? I'm hoping there's enough knowledgeable people on this forum to lay the groundwork for this project. I'd like my OS to say back to me "Which game would you like to play? Music coming right up and I'll read off the latest news as soon as you're ready."

Basically this would start from the ground up or at the very least built off a basic version of Linux. I'm open to suggestions.

I want to hear what features you all would want in a custom OS. As well as suggestions about how to go about implementing them.

I'm pretty new to OS programming so be as detailed as possible.

Speech recognition is a growing software industry and some of it has been implemented in Win7, see http://windows.micro...ech-Recognition

FWIW, I would see this more as an application than an integral part of the OS.

I definitely see this as being developed as an application first, but I think if it's developed well enough it would work better as an integration especially if you can expand the computer to be integrated throughout your house or linked to your phone.
