Hmmh. Isn't it hydrogen peroxide, some sort of dye, and... err, I got to look this up. I bet bud knows better.

"The chemicals used to create this reaction in glow sticks are usually hydrogen peroxide and a mixture of phenyl oxalate ester and the fluorescent dye that gives the glow stick its color. The hydrogen peroxide is contained in a small glass tube that floats within the mixture inside the plastic glow stick. This is why you must bend a glow stick to make it start glowing. When the stick bends, the glass vial breaks, the hydrogen peroxide is released, the chemical reaction begins and you get the distinctive glow."

Edit2: So we come to the conclusion, that you could probably make a glow stick yourself rather easily.

are you speaking of caps? if so, it's an incredibly small amount of armstrong's mixture (red phosphorus and potassium chlorate). it is incredibly static sensitive and will explode on the slightest provokation...thats why they use so little of it in caps.

AKA Armstrongs mixture.

 

yet another mix that`s unstable and can react without apparent reason, I know some that died whilst making it too, he only had a few grams, the glassware did the rest

 

they use stabilisers in the comercial mix, but it`s still far from safe in quantity

i wanna make some glowing mixtures :P:P
