sepultallica Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 I believe this has been tested in many places around the globe and it has not been found to affect crime rates (at least not much more than random government sanctioned executions). i wouldnt support it if were intended to serve as a deterent. iim just saying that hey, you screwed society royally, now its time for you to give a little back. in the name of progress that is. i wouldnt think it would serve as a deterent.
jay geo Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I think prison is a good idea. Prison is not a happy place even with food, T.V. and whatever. It can change a person for good. But then they can change for bad too. Now thats where the government has to take responsibility meaning they should allow the gospel to be preached(you know when all hope is gone people turn to God), they should be made to do creative stuff, etc... Perennial was saying there are countries with low crime figures, well check out this link they got the figures for all the countries:http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_acq
atinymonkey Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 That link is a list of acquittals, not an indicator of crimes commited.
Perennial Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 The same joint has it "the other way around" : http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_adu_pro after which it's starting to look the way it's supposed to. What ever happened to believing in the old clause stating that the way we treat our prisoners measures our maturity as a society ?
atinymonkey Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Ah, that's better. Interesting that the US does not have acquittals in the legal system, I wonder why?
