SRHBRU Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 So, this post should have started in this area of the forum. It's a new topic in science. I hope to generate discussion on the articles I read on the internet, and read about what you have to say in response. I don't know much about about the people who respond on this forum, but I assume you are all intelligent. If you would, could you tell me after your response if you are a student, graduate, or professional. Thank you. After reading some fairly recent articles in science, I have been inspired to learn more about the research being done to fight what seems like a whole range of diseases. The articles I read are from MIT news. I would provide you with link but they aren't posting correctly. So, I put the date and title of each article. 1) Getting to the roots of genetics (04.17.12) 2) New drug could cure nearly any viral infection (08.10.11) 3) A glow of recognition (12.14.11) What do you think of their methods? -Computational techniques to understand genetic diseases -Combining dsRNA-binding protein with another protein to cause apoptosis to stop cancer growth Do you think theses methods will yield successful results? In terms of understanding and remedying current diseases like cancer, hiv, schizophrenia, and other diseases? The first method mentioned is being used to "decode" the human genome. The second, well, fighting off most viruses by means of apoptosis. Insight about me. I am a recent graduate student. I majored in biology and minored in french. I'm 23 and interested in medicine and research. My dream is to work alongside scientists who are working on some of the topics mentioned above as their assistant.
hypervalent_iodine Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 ! Moderator Note SRHBRU, since you already have a thread on this, I'm going to close this one and ask you to direct you conversation to your olde thread (which can be found here).
