The Architekt Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 what is wrong with my calculations? These are just any numbers here... google calculator 0.104384134 * 9.58 = 1 Calculateforfree.com / Online Calculator http://www.calculateforfree.com/sci1.html 0.104384134*9.58 = 1.00000000372 I know about rounding off, but do calculators perform differently?? thanks
Greg H. Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 In short, yes. Different calculators have different levels of precision. FWIW, my TI-92 gives the same answer as the google calc.
elfmotat Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 The best free online calculator you'll find is WolframAlpha: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=0.104384134+*+9.58
The Architekt Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 (edited) BUT THERE IS SOMETHING STILL WRONG THOUGH! REALLY PLEASE LOOK! These are different numbers here: Goolge Calculator: 27.12253364740064 * 0.03686971184183 = 1 Calculateforfree.com / Online Calculator http://www.calculate...e.com/sci1.html 27.12253364740064*0.03686971184183 = 1 Could some numbers be differently read by calculators??? I have this right here: Goolge Calculator: 27.12253364740064*0.03686971184183 = 1 Thanks for the link, I did not get 1 but rather: 0.99999999999999999840632... Can calculators not be smart at all then because of this???? The best free online calculator you'll find is WolframAlpha: http://www.wolframal...04384134+*+9.58 Edited July 8, 2012 by The Architekt
elfmotat Posted July 8, 2012 Posted July 8, 2012 Every calculator has a point at which they round off. Google calculator seems to round off earlier (less accurate), calculate for free rounds of a bit later (a little more accurate), and wolframalpha rounds off even later.
The Architekt Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Then could this mean that some numbers drive precession better than others, regardless of calculators? I have never seen this type of stuff before, I thought I was in error but it seem they later numbers I have are exact with "any" calculator.... Every calculator has a point at which they round off. Google calculator seems to round off earlier (less accurate), calculate for free rounds of a bit later (a little more accurate), and wolframalpha rounds off even later.
